Best Snow Resort For Kids – Selwyn Snow Resort, NSW

Just a 2.5 hour drive from Canberra is one of Australia’s most family-friendly ski resorts. Selwyn Snow Resort, in the heart of the Snowy Mountains, is compact and affordable – the perfect spot for beginners. It’s just a short walk from the car park to the toboggan run and ski slopes, so it’s very easily accessible if you have toddlers in tow. There’s ski hire available on-site, as well as a snow sports school especially for little ones from 18 months to 6 years of age – Snow World. Be sure to book ski lessons for kids in advance on (02) 6454 9000 as spaces are limited.

The cafe serves burgers, chips and your usual fast-food fare and has plenty of seating, although the atmosphere is decidedly school campesque. On the plus side, Selwyn is the only snow resort in NSW that lets you bring your own food and beverages. If it’s a sunny day, there are lots of picnic benches outside and even BBQ facilities (under the shelter on the right as you enter the resort).

Entry to the toboggan park is $15 per person per day, or $10 if you enter after 12:30PM. Free toboggan hire is included! Payment is in cash only, but there’s an ATM in the ski hire centre. If it’s snow play that you’re after, then you won’t even need to pay an entry fee at Selwyn, and there’s lots of space to build snowmen and make snow angels. Entry fee to Kosciusko National Park is collected at a toll booth as you approach Selwyn Snow Resort – $29 per vehicle per day (24hrs); Motorcycles $12; Bus passengers $11.45 per adult, $3.60 per child per day (24hrs).

Our kids loved the snow tube ride and its fun, friendly staff. Best of all, there’s a lift to bring you back up the hill. A 5-ride pass is $20 and a 10-ride pass is $40. Buy your tickets at the toboggan park.
