Best Things To Do With Kids In Melbourne – Scienceworks

As a child growing up in Melbourne, the highlight of my school year was always the annual excursion to Scienceworks. So now that I have kids of my own, we try to visit as much as possible.

My favourite exhibit as a child was the Cathy Freeman sprint race. Despite hundreds of attempts, I never did manage to beat her. I still can't. And now I even pee myself a little in the process (adiós pelvic floor).

The Sportsworks exhibit is a great way to definitively and scientifically determine who is the fittest strongest least unco member of your family. Which begs the question, do people still use the word 'unco'?

Once you've proven your athletic prowess (or lack thereof), head upstairs to the kid wonderland, Nitty Gritty Super City. There you can band together with your fellow kids to construct a foam brick wall, belt out a tune on the old-timey pianola and make a double shot skinny decaf latte for mum in the cafe.

The Lego model of Melbourne is brilliantly detailed...

The Think Ahead exhibition gives you a glimpse into the future...

Outside you'll find even more places to play, as well as a cafe and a big lawn which is perfect for BYO picnics.
